Modern work is full of interruptions.
Emails. Notifications. Teams chats. Meetings. Open tabs. Random thoughts about things you forgot to do.
Most people are not struggling with time.
They are struggling with attention.
A recent Think Productive Skills Booster explored how to protect focus in a world designed to distract us.
One of the standout ideas was “stealth and camouflage”.
Not disappearing forever. Just becoming a little less available when you need to do deep work.
The session explored three simple ways to do this:
Physical Stealth
Creating boundaries in your environment.
This could mean:
- wearing headphones
- moving to a quieter space
- blocking focus time in your calendar
Digital Stealth
Reducing interruptions from technology.
This could mean:
- turning off notifications
- closing unnecessary tabs
- using Do Not Disturb
- checking emails intentionally instead of constantly
Social Stealth
Setting expectations with others.
Simple phrases like:
“I’m in focus mode for the next hour”
can make a big difference.
The session also touched on something many people relate to: procrastination.
Even when we finally get quiet time, our brains suddenly want to do anything except the difficult task.
That is why simple techniques like the Pomodoro Technique still work so well.
Focus for 25 minutes.
Take a short break.
Repeat.
You do not need perfect focus all day.
You just need protected moments of attention.
Because meaningful work rarely happens between notifications.
